I know there is a tradepaperback but surely the classic, original run of Swamp Thing by Len Wien and Berni Wrightson deserves the Archives treatment. IP: Logged |

YES, without a doubt. On top of which, the trade paperbacks didn't do the artwork justice at all. If these books don't deserve an archive, I don't know what does. Glenn IP: Logged |

I was very happy with the Baxter reprint series Roots of the Swamp Thing. It reprinted the first ten issues by Wein and Wrightson, and included some short stories from House of Mystery and the like with Wrightson artwork. Fun stuff. IP: Logged |

What puzzles me most is that the TPB was actually out of print for quite a while--I had simply assumed that they were letting that happen to make room for an archive. But nooooo.... IP: Logged |

Well I for one would love hardcovers of Moore's Swampies. Not very methinks. Darn! IP: Logged |

I posted a similar request a long while back. I wanted the first 12 issues collected in one volume because Len Wein wrote them as a serial, with #12 being the last arc. #11 and 12 have never been collected because they weren't drawn by Wrightson, but the artwork in them is really gorgeous. I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath. Even if the powers that be at DC decided to do this, it would be our grandchildren who will be reading this volume, not us. IP: Logged |

I'd love to have the Nestor Redondo Swamp Thing collected--it was, as you say, gorgeous. IP: Logged |

I bought the Wein/Wrightson Swamp Thing pb a month or so back, I just couldn't justify not having such a classic series on the shelf. And the Nestor Redondo issues looked just as good, although the stories weren't quite as good. As long as DC keeps the tp in print and available, I don't care if an Archives version is available, although I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade in saying so. ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: I also have a suspicion that DC is reluctant to mix the Vertigo lines and DC Universe lines together—even though Swamp Thing started as a DCU book. One of things that amazed me about the trade is how the stories that I had read when I was in fourth grade suddenly became “suggested for mature readers”. I found this extremely silly. Wein’s last two issues should be reprinted since they do essentially conclude Matt Cable’s quest for Alec Holland’s killer. However, I don’t remember much of what was in the issues after that which is probably not a good sign… ------------------ IP: Logged |

quote: Does anyone pay attention to those warnings? I figure it's just Vertigo policy to label all their books. I can't image a nine year old wanting the Swamp Thing book and a dad going "Sorry son, it has a mature readers suggestion on it." IP: Logged |

I'd guess that in places like Des Moines and Raleigh and Salt Lake City and Mobile, a fair number of parents are still paying attention to anything that warns of the possibility of nudity, for instance. This may be silly in view of what kids see on TV and the internet all the time, but as even I remember (and it's a looong time since I was a kid), parents aren't always the most rational of creatures, especially when they're feeling protective.
